One of the things I always look forward to in Sentai Filmworks DVDs is the commentary track. The disc also contains trailers for other Sentai Filmworks releases like Toradora and The Comic Artist and His Assistants, along with a promo video for their Summer 2013 line-up. There are no subtitles for this DVD, but there is an English language track which you can turn on to read translations if you want. The Japanese dub sounds just fine as well, but it doesn't have any familiar voices for me to recognize. It has actors who seem to be familiar with saying lines in English so that's always good. The English dub sounds pretty good to my ears.
One is dubbed in English and the other is dubbed in Japanese.

The movie comes with two audio tracks, both of which are English. The back covers information about the movie's characters and story, but not much else. This one comes packaged in a thin DVD case with illustrations on the front and back. You can see pictures below of how each version looks like. There are several versions of this DVD out now-the Angelic Edition and the Animate Deluxe Edition are packaged differently from each other and from this one. Yes, there were some plot holes in Hotaru no Mori e, but I'll overlook them since I really liked the movie.Īs for the DVD itself? The packaging is very simple and not creative at all. Without them, the movie wouldn't have been as great as it was. A lot of it revolves around Hotaru, but her friends are also very important characters. Naturally, this leads to some comedy, but the most interesting part of this movie is its focus on community. The girls also engage in some survival skills like tracking animals.

Along with her aunt and two other girls, one who lives nearby and another that she meets through her aunt's school connections, Hotaru learns how to use tools like spears and long knives.

It's based on the manga series of the same name, which tells an interesting coming-of-age story about a student named Hotaru who goes to live with her aunt in the forests of Japan.
